Desi watched Hal and Ana as they interacted. The blind girl was certainly close to him. Hal said a few reassuring words to the girl that she couldn’t quite make out. She thought he said something along the lines of he’d be back before she even realized he was gone. He looked up at Desi and she grinned and nodded at his silent request. Okay, so he was a sweet guy. She had no problem admitting that, but that didn’t change the fact she was normally uncomfortable around him. Shaking her head, she put the test tubes with Hal’s blood away and turned to Ana.
“You and Hal seem close,” she said, trying to make conversation. “It’s a little surprising. He normally keeps his distance from people as best as he can. Well, aside from Aisilyn, Lilli, Cassie, and Raven, he normally comes in here with everyone else and just stays out of the way. Sometimes he’ll wait outside, but he normally keeps his distance. You must be very special.”
Okay, Desi knew very well why Hal normally kept his distance. It was to achieve two things. First, he didn’t want to risk hurting someone as he turned due to proximity. Second, he wanted to make Desi as comfortable around him as possible. Well, after seeing the beast in him come out, Desi was more than a little apprehensive around him. He had changed so fast that it had made a permanent impression in her memory. She wasn’t scared of him, but she was terrified of what he was capable of.

Ana nodded to her statement. "Hal had saved me. I trust him. Hes sweet and gentle and always there when I need him." sHe said with a soft smile. She remembered all the times he had saved her. Starting with the day her family died. It saddened her to think about it all. She had lost everything she knew that day. Had to listen to the screams of her dying friends and family. Any normal person would be depressed by it. But not Ana. Ana had kept her chin up and pushed on. But she didn't have to do it alone. Hal had always been there.
Hal. He had saved her so many times. he was her savior and her friend. "He is like a brother to me." sHe added. He really was. She saw him as nothing more and nothing less. That was how it was. And that was how it was going to be.

Desi smiled a little at that. In all honesty, she wasn’t surprised that the girl felt that way. Really Hal was a sweet guy. The students all respected him; some feared him. The boys looked up to him. The girls crushed on him. Oh the things Desi hears about him sometimes made her want to giggle. The staff and most of the adults in the sanctuary were all pretty much aware of his other side so the respect was more out of self-preservation.
She opened her mouth to say something when the door to the infirmary opened. In came in a girl about nineteen with two kids. One was a another girl about fourteen and the other was a boy about nine. The boy was crying and his arm was bleeding quite a bit. The younger was just looking around the room as though nothing had happened. Desi sighed and looked at the oldest one.
“What happened this time?” she asked.
”Johnny did something and Tara went into one of her split personalities. The violent one.” Marisol said.
“Sit him up on this bed over hear and let me see what I can do for him,” Desi said. “And can you wait outside with Tara for a few.”
She cleaned and examined Johnny’s gash to find that it was very deep and had both glass and rock stuck inside. Desi did the long grueling task of getting each and every tiny foreign object out of the wound and then recleaning it. Johnny was good for that part, but he was going to need stitches. Johnny hated needles. Sighing, she turned to Ana.
“Ana, can you do me a favor?” she asked so only Ana could hear as she carefully to the girl’s hand. “Johnny had a bad fall and needs stitches. What I want from you is your personality. Do you mind distracting him while i get everything and stitch him up? He’s deathly afraid of needles but he needs it done. All you need to do is talk to him. Can you do that for me. Normally I’d have Marisol do it but Mari needs to keep an eye on Tara right now.”

Ana listened to the new voice talk about another accident that happened. It made her feel bad for the little boy. But when Desi asked her to help, Ana smiled and nodded. She reached out and grabbed Desi's hand with her uninjured arm and moved to sit next to the boy on the bed. "Hello." She said sweetly. "I'm Ana. I had an accident too." sHe spoke softly as she put her hand on the boy's other hand. "So you're not alone here." Ana smiled. She was trying to help as much as she could. She had never done this kind of thing. "What do you like to do for fun?" She asked the little boy hoping he would talk to her. Maybe if she got him talking then he wouldn't even notice the needle. It was worth a shot. Couldn't blame her for trying.

Desi quickly got out a sterile needle and stitching thread as soon as Johnny’s attention was on Ana. The boy had autism and so Desi didn’t really expect him to open up to Ana. He really didn’t like strangers all that much. He was extremely shy and quiet. So it was a surprise when his voice rang in Desi’s ears.
”Hello,” he said. ”I like to play on Mari’s boyfriend’s playstation. That’s what I was doing when Tara turned it off. I tried to get it back but she pushed me. I landed on one of the vases. It was filled with little rocks I found.”
Desi smiled a little as he spoke. He didn’t usually say anything at all to anyone. It was quite surprising actually. Then again, Ana had a lot of Mari’s personality and the boy adored his oldest sister. So as he was busy talking to Ana, Des stitched him up. She was quick and efficient, but very careful. The last thing she needed was for him to look down and freak out. Luckily he whimpered once or twice but his attention was on Ana. So she finished up, put some ointment on it, and bandaged it up.
“There you go, Johnny,” she said, pulling a blue blow pop out of her pocket and handing it to him. “Mari and Tara just outside waiting for you. Give this to Mari.”
She helped little boy down and handed him the bottle of medicinal ointment for the cut. He took it and made his way out the door. She wasn’t worried about Mari not cleaning the wound correctly. It wasn’t the first time any of the three had needed stitches. As the door shut behind Johnny, Desi turned back to Ana.
“Thank you,” she said. “He’s doesn’t talk to many people. He liked you.”

Ana smiled as the boy spoke. He seemed scared but he was also focused. "That wasn't nice of her to do that. If you want, I have a puppy. You can come play with her from time to time if you would like." Ana offered. John had gotten her the little Teacup Yorkie. Hal hadn't approved at first but then when he saw how happy the small animal had made Ana, he had relented. "I stay in room 213. So whenever you would like to play, just come by. It would be nice for Bela to have a new friend to play with. I am sure she gets tired of just playing with me." She offered the boy. She wanted him to feel comfortable. Ana was a very caring and easy going person. So not many people disliked her. She liked to accredit her demeanor to her royal blood. Being raised a princess sure helped her from time to time.
Ana listened to the retreating steps of the boy as he left the room when he was done. She smiled softly. "He seems like a sweet child." sHe spoke softly.

Desi looked up at Johnny at Ana’s offer. His face instantly brightened up. The boy loved animals. To Desi’s knowledge he had just gotten a dog of his. That dog rarely left his side, which made Desi wonder exactly where the animal was.
”Okay.” he answered sweetly, before he left.
Desi grinned a little at Ana. Even though the girl couldn’t see it, Desi was very taken by her. She was so much sweeter than most people. It always made her happy to know that not everyone were hung up on life. Seriously, not very many could see the brighter side of life. Ana just radiated her optimism to the point it was a tangible force. What more could anyone ask in a person?
“He is,” she said at Ana’s observation. “You were very good with him. He doesn’t open up to many but his sister. I think he really liked you.”
Suddenly a thought came to Desideria. It was spontaneous and she wasn’t quite sure what exactly had spurred it. All she knew was that it didn’t hurt to ask and perhaps Ana would enjoy some interaction. So Desi asked exactly what was on her mind. A lot of her patients came out of hellish situations, a lot being the government facilities. It definitely wasn’t in her favor that she was a doctor and a non-mutant.
“How would you feel if I told you that you can come down here whenever you want?” she asked. “I get a lot of kids and even some adults coming in who are scared to death. It’s kinda hard to help them relax when I’m trying to fix them. I think it would do them all some good to have someone to interact with that can give them their full attention. Sometimes it helps to have someone on the outside to make you feel safe.”

Ana smiled sweetly. "I like children. They are so full of life and so pure. They are not tainted by the ways of the world." She answered. it was the truth in her eyes. The problem with the world is they were tainted with sin and impurities.
Ana smiled bigger at the proposition. "I would like that." SHe answered. "Just come and get me and I will help. I would love to help." Ana spoke. She liked to help people. It was something that she had always liked to do. Helping people always was high on her list. She had always put others before herself. It was the way she had been her whole life.

Desi grinned at her declaration. Yes children were definitely the most innocent of them all. Most were naive about the world’s cruelty. Those who had been dealt a bad hand were rarely ever jaded by the negative luck. Desi really did love kids. They brightened any dreary day that she was facing.
“Yes, they normally aren’t as pessimistic as adults and teens,” she agreed.
She caught sight of the clock on her wall and her eyes widened slightly as she saw the time. Crap! It was almost five already. She was going to be late. First five was one of her break hours. This one was longer than her lunch break because she didn’t just eat her dinner. No she normally had to meet her mother for dinner. Now her mother lived a half an hour away and hated her being late. It made her mother nervous.
“Ana I know you’re waiting for Hal, but do you mind if I take you back to your room?” she asked. “I need to get his blood work done and get ready for a dinner date with my mom. I’m already going to be late for it, but I don’t mind walking you to your room. I can call Hal and let him know you’re already up there on my way out. Is that okay with you?”

Ana smiled and nodded a little. "Yes, that is alright." She spoke kindly. She was a little worried about Hal being gone so long, but she didn't want to cause Desi to be late for dinner. But Ana was also excited to help out somewhere. She knew she wasn't much help to many because of her disability. But here was a chance to help someone ease people's mind after getting hurt or sick. Ana was good at that. She was kind and gentle. And who would be scared of a blind girl?
