So three months later in October of 2002, they finally made it. They were half starved, clothes torn and emotionally exhausted. But they made it! They were finally in New York. And boy was it a culture shock. It was so different then Houston. All of the people and all of the building and different places. It was a very different experience for them. It didn't take long for them to be found and led to the Xavier institute. She met the Professor and the older man promised to help her gain control of her powers. Of course Casey had to get better first. She was badly underweight and had a lot of minor injuries from just life on the streets. It took her almost six months to gain the thirty pounds of the weight back.
But after several years, Casey noticed that Lance still didn't seem to have adjusted very well. Sure he had adjusted to the physical parts of it (the food, water, warm bed, clothes, etc.) but he didn't seem to take to the peaceful ideas as much as she had. He seemed very bitter and judgmental towards humans and really Casey couldn't blame him. After all they had done...she was surprised that she herself wasn't the same way. But she also knew that revenge wasn't the answer. It never was. And as much as she tried to get her brother to understand that, nothing worked. Then one day, the 18 year-old shapeshifter woke up to find her brother gone. He had taken very little in the way of his belongings. He had taken some clothes obviously as his guitar but he left everything else behind. He had left nothing to tell of where he was going or what he was planning. Lance had disappeared and she had no idea where he was. Casey was very angry, she was saddened, she was worried, she was feeling everything at that moment.
Casey wanted to help the X Men at Liberty Island, but she was too inexperienced they told her and so she was forced to watch it on the news. She didn't like being held up here. She wanted to help. But the aftermath seemed like it was going to be worse then the whole mess itself. Humans knew about mutants as a whole now. That could only mean bad things Casey figured and so she just focused on finding her brother and getting better control over her powers. It took her a while to get the guts to ask the professor if he could use Cerebro. She figured he was far too busy with much more important things then to help her. But she got up the courage soon enough and asked him anyways. Of course he helped her, but when Casey found out he was with Magneto, she was not happy and then she made it her self mission to get him back to Xavier's before something terrible happened.
Casey was affected badly by the events at Alkali Lake. Luckily she had just been in her bed waking up from a day long snooze after passing out from her insomnia when she felt the excruciating pain. It felt like someone had released a wild herd of horses in her head. She black out for just a few seconds before coming to, but it was nothing too bad. She survived unscathed if you don't count the massive headache. But when she heard news of Jean Gray's death, it saddened her greatly. The older woman was someone she had looked up to and Casey was going to miss her terribly.
Things seem to be getting back on track. Or as well as they could be living in a house full of mutants. That was until news of the cure came along. Then things got crazier if that was even possible. But even with as much strife as she had gotten for her mutation, Casey was obviously opposed to the cure. How dare they treat them like a disease when they were human beings?! It was disgusting! Unlike Liberty Island where she had been told she couldn't come, Casey was presence at the Alcatraz Island battle. She tried to find her brother (whom she had a hunch would be there) but of course as luck would have it she failed. She was forced to flee as the Phoenix (who was actually Jean Grey...but then again that whole thing confused her a lot) destroyed everything and everyone that got in her way. But they had saved the little boy that they were planning to kill. It was day of triumph and a day of great sadness.
Then someone had gotten the genius idea of tweaking the cure to make it permanent and they only ended up releasing the Legacy Virus. Casey was one of the unlucky ones coming down with the virus herself after coming in contact with it from an outside source. She didn’t know what it was but she didn’t like it! Casey could easily admit that was the worst she has ever felt in her entire life. And she had come very close to dying, but Casey was a fighter. She hadn't come this far to give up now...and so she survived long enough for them to find a cure and was cured just in time and made a full recovery.
Casey had been at the mansion during the Brotherhood attack, and unfortunately she was forced to fight her brother. Lance had changed drastically since she had seen him last. He was much more aggressive then she had ever seen him and he was much more willing to use his powers for violence. She had never thought about using her powers against her brother, but on that night, she had no choice. With Saad (a fellow student) helping him, Casey was at a distinct disadvantage. After a violent fight that had destroyed much of the mansion's kitchen, Casey had caught a break. Lance had begun to overheat from using his powers and so he fled. But luck was not on her side when it came to her injuries. Her brother had badly burned her chest, the top of her back, her shoulders, neck and arms. The 2nd and 3rd degree burns took almost a month to heal. But the mental injuries were much deeper then the physical wounds. Casey was absolutely devastated. This fight seemed to only drive home how much her and Lance were drifting apart. She had begun to go into a depression and despite much convincing and persuasions, Casey left the Institute in late April. She was gonna try and make it on her own she decided. That and at the moment she just couldn't handle being there anymore then she had too. But after just a couple of months, she couldn't help but feel guilty. She felt as if she was running away from her problems and that was not what she had been taught. And she felt as if she had let them all down, which was something she had promised herself that she would never do. And so now she has decided to return to the Mansion to face her troubles head on
